I loved the very idea of Tapestry from the get-go. That‘s part of the reason I went ahead and backed them on Kickstarter—that‘s not something I do, like, ever. I craved early access to TestFlight and I‘ve been heavily anticipating the final release.

But then I felt underwhelmed, and I struggled to find a good use case for it. I got the idea, or so I thought, but it didn‘t stick. For the next few months I seldom used it, occasionally launched it to browse through a few of the sources I had defined there and that was it.

Reinvigoration came in the form of 1.1 version release. I stumbled upon the news about it somewhere on Mastodon, read through the release notes, and, most importantly, watched this quick walkthrough. That video sparked a multitude of ideas in my brain and new functionality came to back up some of the rather clunky solutions (following public posts of the Bluesky account instead of trying to do it via RSS is a huge win in my book—especially as I'm not interested in having an account there).

Right now I‘m at the point where Tapestry is one of the most heavily used apps on my iPhone. I created 4 timelines to sort my 40 (and counting) feeds. At some point I gave up on following tags on Mastodon—while Ivory does a really good job about it, I already have so many things happening there, that I was unable to give it a fighting chance. Following these tags in Tapestry is a breeze. I have them sorted into two different timelines (topic dependent) and then I have a timeline called “All but hashes” where I keep only the ordinary sources (i.e. everything but tags). It allowed me to discover and interact with much more content I‘m truly interested in.

My newest addition timelines-wise is one dedicated to Indie Web. I‘m also entertaining the idea of moving all of my newsletters from my RSS feed reader into Tapestry—or have them there as well, like I do with bunch of blogs already. I honestly think, that should there be a macOS version, I‘d most likely replace NetNewsWire with Tapestry.

If you haven‘t tried it yet, go ahead and grab it from the App Store. It‘s a free app with premium features, and it‘s a joy to use!
